This time though, I was bracing for Steven to try to push them together, but at least for meit felt like he did a way better job of focusing on each of them as a person rather than shipping them.

Before it aired I found myself wondering: will Garnet or Sapphire factor in? Ruby and Sapphire, Pearl and Rose Mystery girl and Pearl, Mr. Smiley and Mr. Frowny (confirmed online) Lapis and Jasper- at the very least a metaphor for a toxic relationship that happens to be gay this reoccurring lesbian couple with their kid, this gay werewolf couple (the monster representation we deserve lmao).

Having the machine be sort of a mix between Astro Boy and Zoltar was a nice touch. Mr. Smiley from "Steven Universe" - It's implied in a few episodes that Mr. Smiley had a romantic past with Mr. Frowney, another male character.

Matthew from "Big Mouth" - He is an openly gay character, and his experiences related to his sexuality are explored in various episodes. Smiley tries to talk to him and Frowny makes a self loathing comment. And thanks to his new job, Steven ends up giving advice to so many of the Beach City residents, including a pre-crime Onion.
